I ordered a phone through JB Hi-Fi website, it was in stock with the estimated delivery time of 4 days. To pay for the order, I purchased a gift card, to get an additional 5% off. Once I ordered and paid, JB Hi-Fi informed me that no stock of those phones was available until January (that's a month from today). I can cancel the order, but the gift card is not refundable, so makes no sense to cancel it anyway. Excellent strategy, JB Hi-Fi: make customers pay for something that will only be available in a month and only then inform them that no stock is available.
